2020 has been a whirlwind of a year, to say the least – in every sense it is history in the making. Unprecedented times that called for unprecedented measures; yet, with all the world’s changes around Covid-19 and the Black Lives Matter movement, you may find yourself running low on energy, tempted to eat poorly and a bit exhausted. And, tea might be the answer. What will always help to bring a sense of calm is tea, and what will also help increase immunity is tea, and what is also quite grounding is tea. You can find it just about anywhere, it’s rather affordable and your body will absolutely love you for it. Here are the top 3 immunity teas to drink during Covid-19:
Garlic Tea
Garlic is pure power and this makes it one of the top 3 immunity teas. Eat it. Drink it. Make friends with it. You can’t go wrong with garlic as a morning tea. Garlic is anti everything. When chopped it releases a compound called allicin which is an anti fungal, anti bacterial, anti viral and anti inflammatory. To make to garlic tea, simply place a few pegs of chopped garlic into a pot of water. Bring the water to a boil and then let it cool. Let the garlic remain in the water; after 5 to 7 minutes pour yourself a cup of garlic tea. Add honey, if you please.
Ginger Tea
Ginger is a root and so ginger tea can feel quite grounding to the body. It is soothing on throat and stomach. Ginger tea also keeps food cravings away with a mild earthy flavor. It helps to get rid of nausea and motion sickness and is one of our favorite evening teas. To make, bring a pot of water to a boil then add in thinly sliced pieces of ginger. Keep the water boiling but lower the heat for another 5 to 7 minutes. The goal is to have the water pull the flavor out of the garlic. Once that’s done, let it cool for comfort, add honey or drink as is.
Green Tea
Of the top 3 immunity teas, Green tea could win the Oscar on any given Sunday. It is just that amazing. Green tea has polyphenols that reduce inflammation and antioxidants that fight against free radicals. It has been known to help with neuro degenerative conditions like Alzheimer’s disease and cancers. If that doesn’t impress you, know that it helps with cell repair and tames bad breath. To make, steep a single green tea teabag into hot water for 2 minutes. Sip to taste. If it tastes strong then you can remove the tea bag but if it’s mild then leave the teabag in. The goal is a nice smooth tea with subtle flavor profiles over a tarte, bitter one. The strength of the flavor has to do with the potency of the tea’s ingredients.
